Food Smarts for College Starts

For many students, college is the first time they’ve lived on their own and been responsible for making their own food-purchasing decisions. For some, it’s their first experience cooking full meals on a regular basis.

The farmer organizations that make up the Kentucky Livestock Coalition are here to help! If you attended one of our five on-campus events in March, you likely came away with a gadget you can use in your kitchen or maybe some rub to try on your grill.

Below are some easy recipes to help you expand your menu and get creative in the kitchen.



Safety First!

To make sure you can enjoy your food safely, it’s essential to cook your meats to the proper “done” temperature. We’ve included a helpful chart below to help you get your meats done just how you like them and avoid getting sick!


Temperature is Important!

Always use a meat thermometer and make sure it reads the safe temperature for at least 15 seconds.
